2016/2017 RLC Box Programming
One of the things that I love most about our program is our focus on the box game. Last winter, we saw extreme success across all ages and we are looking forward to another great year coming up. We've made a couple of adjustments to our programming below and we're sure you'll agree that players going through the RLC Box program are going to get a serious leg up on other players headed into the spring season:
Unlike last year, in which all teams were in the same division, this year the LXTC/Mammoth Elite league will have three different conferences. We will be in the Northern Confernece, which will include Boulder Valley, the Rocky Mountain Rattlers, the RLC, and a free agent team. There will be a six-team Metro Conference and a four-team Southern Conference.
We will play six regular season games against our conference opponents and two out of conference games against Metro teams (one home, one away). This structure will allow us to stay north more than we did last year and give us a dedicated home arena. Playoffs will be seeded based on our conference records and each conference will have at least one team to qualify.
We will have four teams as part of the league this year: U11, U12, U13, U15. U11 and U12 will participate together for practices and RLC Strength while U13 and U15 will do the same.
NOTE: U9 programming is available after the New Year and we'll send that information out separately! Plan on six sessions in January and February to get you ready for your spring season!
SKILL SESSIONS and PRESEASON SCRIMMAGE:
We will hold mandatory skill sessions this year to help us select our teams and ensure a high level of competition. It's an honor to be chosen for one of these teams and to represent our region against some of the best players in the state. In addition to the tryout dates below, we will also have the opportunity to play at the University of Denver's Peter Barton Stadium for an exhibition against the Denver Elite teams.
PRACTICES and RLC STRENGTH CLASSES:
Practices will be once a week on Friday evenings. We are extremely excited to team up with Coach Brian Niswender of 5-Tool Sports Training to present a one-of-a-kind opportunity to players in RLC Box. On Tuesday evenings, players will work with Coach Niswender to give our players access to one of the greatest assets they can have as a lacrosse player: better speed and athleticism. This is an extreme value to our program and players. It will be held once a week during our practice weeks at ODs. For some players, this will be the first time they've been in an off-field conditioning program, an invaluable experience preparing them for high school athletics and lifelong fitness.
