The coaching staff for Rams Boys Lacrosse is top notch.  Meet our coaches..........

Head Coach Marcus Penhale (jmpenhale@yahoo.com):  Coach Penhale began playing lacrosse at 13 in Ridgewood, New Jersey, an area known as a breeding ground for great lacrosse players.  He played lacrosse practically everyday.  He and his buddies pretty much lived with their sticks.  He played on a New Jersey state championship team his junior year at Ridgewood HS.  This team was ranked 3rd nationally.  After high school he attended the Hoosac School in NY for one year where he was the team's MVP and earned all-league honors.  His college did not have a lacrosse program but he picked the game up again upon arriving in Portland.  He started playing competitively with the Portland Lacrosse Club in 2001.  He has been actively involved with the youth programs at Rhino Lacrosse where he has earned the reputation of a player's coach.  Coach Penhale is excited to help build the lacrosse program at Central.

Assistant Coach Lucas Henn (lhenn13@yahoo.com) : Coach Henn grew up in Baltimore where he began playing lacrosse in first grade.  He continued with the sport through his sophomore year at Lynchburg College in Virginia.  He has coached at the Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg and at his alma mater, Catonsville HS in Baltimore, for a total of three years.  He is anxious to share his great love for the sport of lacrosse and his 14 years of experience with the Central JV players.  Coach Henn has high hopes for this year's team as he plays a critical role in building the CCHS lacrosse program.

Assistant Coach Tully Alford (tullyalford1@gmail.com)  Coach Alford began playing the game of lacrosse in the 5th grade at the Landon School in Bethesda, MD. He played on their Varsity for all 4 years while in high school and was one of the team captains his senior year.  During his summers he attended lacrosse camps at the University of Maryland, being voted by the coaches to the all-star team.  After high school, he played for Denison University in Ohio. While in Oregon, he has coached at Eastside Lacrosse and is now in his second year with the Central Catholic program.  Coach Tully's goal is to help create a championship program at Central.

Assistant Coach James Mone:  James grew up in Montclair, NJ – a suburban town about 15 miles outside of New York City. He and his two brothers and his neighbors (many of whom would eventually be college players) would play fierce pick-up games out in the street in front of his house. Montclair had a long history of success in lacrosse in the state of New Jersey – tradition was a big component of playing there. James went on to play four years of Division III lacrosse at Stockton College, where tradition did not yet exist – he just had fun and played. These two very different experience gave James an appreciation that ideally you want to have both: a winning tradition and an emphasis on fun.  James works with the Ram’s offense and employs the many strategies and approaches taught to him buy some great players and coaches in his past.  As a coach, he not only passes on the lessons he has been taught, but also that spirit of giving back to the next generation of players.

JV Head Coach Rich Guasco (rich_guasco@msn.com):  Rich was born and raised in the Portland area and attended Central Catholic his freshman year (1980-81). He started coaching his daughter’s basketball team in 2001 and later followed with his two sons in football, basketball, and baseball.  In 2006, he was involved with starting Clackamas Youth Lacrosse where he began his lacrosse coaching career. Since 2006, Coach Guasco has learned the game of lacrosse by working with young athletes to develop their mental, physical, and strategic skills.  Rich looks to develop young men with the game of lacrosse.
